Green Bathroom
Client Needs and Concerns
We needed to come up with a design that did not age quickly, but also incorporated sustainable features.
Our Solutions
Through our design process we came up with a universal design that would stand the test of time. Since the renovation was completed in an occupied space, we took special care in keeping the dust down and used low- or no VOC finishes, as well as eliminating any hazardous air pollutants that are typical of standard construction.
Green Features
- All walls were insulated with foam insulation. This serves a dual purpose; the walls on the exterior of the building now have a superior air barrier and thermal barrier, and the interior walls and ceiling now have a layer of sound barrier
- HVAC and ductwork were replaced with energy efficient systems and properly sized for this new bathroom at the same time
- Properly sized ventilation was installed for air flow when bathroom was being used.
- No VOC paints and finishes were used
- Whole building approach to comfort and energy savings
- Paperless drywall was used since it does not support mold growth
- All of the reclaimed or organic furnishing was supplied by our green designers
- None of the solid surfaces, including the tile, need sealing or maintenance.
